Spain has officially approved the latest National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan(PNIEC or NECP 2023-2030)proposed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Population Challenges(MITECO).The country’s official goal now is to expand its renewable energy capacity to 81%by 2030,up from 74%in the 2021 version of the NECP plan.
Specifically in terms of installed power capacity,Spain’s newly set goal is to achieve 76.27 GW of solar photovoltaic power generation installed capacity(including 19 GW of self use capacity)by 2030,higher than the 39 GW proposed in the 2021 version of NECP;The energy storage target is 22.5GW;The target for wind power installation is to reach 62GW(including 3GW of offshore wind power); The target for hydroelectric power generation is 12GW;The target for biogas power generation is 20TWh;Solar thermal power generation will also contribute 4.8GW of electricity generation. In addition, the country has set a goal of achieving 12GW of electrolytic hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
To achieve the above,it is expected that an investment of 308 billion euros will be needed by 2030,of which 37%will be used for renewable energy,28%for saving and improving efficiency,17%for energy networks, and 17%for economic electrification.
